An almost six-minute long trailer has surfaced of a project called “Detroit: By Choice.” It focuses on the Grandmont-Rosedale neighborhood, that has been fighting back, and in fact, gaining new residents according to the interviews.
“There’s a lot of demand.. half of the people we’re selling houses to right now are moving to Detroit from the suburbs,” said Tom Goddeeris of the Grandmont-Rosedale Development Corporation (GRDC) in the video.
As someone who’s been through the area many times visiting friends or on media tours, I can tell you that it’s one of Detroit’s gems. To give you an idea of scale, this neighborhood as defined by the GRDC boundaries is roughly the size in land area of the suburb of Berkley, Michigan.
The video is also very plain and clear on what they think the best way to help Detroit.
“If you are really a strong believer in Detroit, then move here. Pay taxes here, because the only way it’s going to get better is if there’s a tax base to improve the city services.. and all that needs to be improved. It’s the best way to start,” said Amanda Brewington of Always Brewing Detroit, a new coffeeshop in the area, in the clip.
What do you think is the best, most constructive way to help Detroit?
